1. What data Surging stores

Surging saves the following information locally on your device using Apple's secure storage (NSUserDefaults on iOS, SharedPreferences on Android):

None of this data is transmitted to any server, third party, or cloud service. It exists only in your device's local storage and is deleted when you uninstall the app.

2. What Surging does not collect

• No personal information (name, email, phone number, address)
• No account credentials or authentication data
• No location data
• No device identifiers or advertising IDs
• No usage analytics or behavioral tracking
• No crash reports sent externally
• No payment or financial information
• No contacts, photos, or camera access

3. AI features and Ollama

Surging's AI coaching feature uses Ollama — a local AI runtime that runs entirely on your Mac. When you use AI insights:

• Your goal data is sent only to Ollama running on your own Mac, never to an external server
• The connection goes over your local WiFi network between your device and your Mac
• No goal data, coaching responses, or prompts are stored or logged outside your devices
• The AI feature is entirely optional — the app works fully without it

If you use the web version of Surging and connect directly to Ollama on localhost, all processing happens on your own computer with no network transmission at all.

4. Notifications

Surging can send local notifications for daily reminders and hourly pace check-ins. These notifications are:

• Scheduled and delivered entirely on your device using Apple's local notification system
• Never routed through external servers or push notification services
• Fully optional — you can disable them at any time in the app Settings or in your device Settings

5. Third-party services

Surging does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or data collection services. There are no SDKs from Facebook, Google Analytics, Amplitude, Mixpanel, Firebase Analytics, or any similar service embedded in the app.

The only external network request the app makes is to Google Fonts to load the Orbitron typeface for the app icon — this is a one-time resource load and does not involve any personal data.

6. Data security

Your data is stored using the platform's native secure storage mechanisms. On iOS, this is NSUserDefaults within the app's sandboxed container, which is encrypted by iOS and inaccessible to other apps. On Android, this is SharedPreferences within the app's private data directory.

Because no data leaves your device, there is no server-side security risk. Your goals cannot be accessed, breached, or leaked from an external server because no external server holds them.

7. Children's privacy

Surging does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. The app contains no advertising, no in-app purchases that could target children, and no social features. The App Store age rating is 4+.

8. Your rights

Because Surging collects no personal data, there is nothing for us to provide, correct, export, or delete on our end. All data exists only on your device and is under your complete control:

• To export your data: use the export function in the app (if enabled) or copy the local storage directly
• To delete your data: uninstall the app — all local data is removed automatically by iOS and Android
• To reset your data: use the clear data option in the app Settings

9. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Since Surging collects no personal data, any changes are unlikely to affect your privacy rights. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
